Fire Restrictions Lifted from Federal Lands

MONTE VISTA—Due to the current extended period of moisture, fire restrictions have been lifted from federal lands in the Upper Rio Grande Valley including the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Bureau of Land Management’s San Luis Valley Field Office, Rio Grande National Forest and the San Luis Valley National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

The San Luis Valley Interagency Fire Unit extends their thanks to everyone for being careful with fire thus far this year. It has been through your efforts and those of our volunteer fire departments that we have been able to avoid any large human-caused wildland fires within the Upper Rio Grande Valley.

In order to maintain this good record, visitors to the San Luis Valley’s public lands are reminded to continue to be careful with fire and to make sure campfires are completely extinguished before leaving an area.
