Property owner shoots bear in Crestone

Crestone residents are asked to be on the lookout for a large bear that was shot by a landowner just before dark on Wednesday, July 17. The bear was wounded and could be dangerous. If anyone spots a bear in town or in the vicinity that appears to be wounded do not approach it. Please contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife immediately at 1-719-587-6900 with location information. Officers will respond quickly.

Wildlife officers searched for the bear throughout the night but could not find it. The bear could have run far away or it could still be in town. The bear was harassing the property owner’s mules.
